Hannes Anaf spoke with ‘Humo’ following the testimony of De Wever in the inquiry committee on Friday. “It is unprecedented that a committee chairman falls out of his role like that,” says the Antwerp mayor. “A commission of inquiry is the heaviest instrument in a parliamentary democracy, with the power of an investigating judge. If an investigating judge makes all kinds of accusations publicly, even before those involved have had the floor, could you still have confidence in that investigating judge? I can no longer have confidence in the chairman,” said De Wever
According to Anaf, in the interview with ‘Humo’ he only asked questions that would also be raised in the committee. Groen and Vooruit talked about a diversionary maneuver by De Wever.
