Backing for Gladbach coach Farke

Roland Virkus, sports director of the Bundesliga soccer club Borussia Mönchengladbach, has backed head coach Daniel Farke despite a mediocre interim result.

“Daniel has shown that he can master it and that he deserves this chance,” explained Virkus and confirmed that he would also plan the next season with Farke. After 30 match days, Borussia is ranked tenth in the European Cup and below their own sporting expectations. “Of course we are not satisfied with this season,” said the sporting director.

Virkus is counting on Farke developing as successfully as he did at one of his previous stints at Norwich City in England.

“There was a team being rebuilt in Norwich. The situation is similar and comparable,” said Virkus. Farke once led second division side Norwich to the Premier League and signed a contract with Borussia until the start of the current season until 2025. He succeeded Adi Hütter, from whom the club had parted ways after just one year after finishing tenth at the end of the previous season.

The sports director does not want to let the current season run out. “Now it’s about approaching the last few games in a highly focused manner and making them as positive as possible in order to leave the season with a better feeling and then initiate the conversion in the summer,” Virkus said before the home game against VfL Bochum on Saturday (May 15). :30 p.m./Sky).
