During the last broadcast of Omroep Brabant’s talk show KRAAK, journalist and presenter Arjo Kraak received the provincial ‘Hertog Jan’ from King’s Commissioner Ina Adema. He received this special award because of his long-standing and impressive journalistic record and because he has given a face to many Brabanders in our province.
King’s Commissioner Ina Adema praised Kraak for his journalistic sharpness and craftsmanship. “Arjo is genuinely interested and inquisitive. He conducts conversations with respect and space for his guests without losing his critical view,” said the commissioner. She further states that Arjo has given tens of thousands of Brabanders a face and has thus contributed to the cultural identity of the province.
The provincial ‘Hertog Jan’ has been awarded since 1988 to Brabant residents who have made ‘special efforts in a specific social field’ for a longer period of time. The accompanying statue is a design by the Brabant artist: Willy van der Putt.

Last of almost 350 broadcasts
Arjo Kraak has been active in journalism for approximately forty years. He was, among other things, a radio reporter and program leader of the now defunct radio studio in Den Bosch. He also presented various radio and television broadcasts and talk shows, including ‘Het Dakterras’, ‘Het Middagcafé’ and ‘Everything is allowed on Saturday.’ On Sunday he presented the last of almost 350 broadcasts of the talk show KRAAK.
Nearly a thousand guests joined Arjo in those 350 broadcasts of the talk show he created. From famous to less famous people. They all came with a beautiful, special or fun story to discuss with the presenter.
Emotional moment
And that is appreciated. During the last broadcast, regular viewer Tineke explained why she appreciates Arjo as a presenter so much. An emotional hymn that made Arjo shed a tear himself.
