At the stadium in Yaoundé, one of the largest cities in Cameroon, it was restless because of the extra influx of people. More than 50,000 people reportedly tried to get into the stadium, while there were only 48,000 seats for spectators. Due to the corona measures, twenty percent of the seats (12,000 pieces) had to remain empty.

In addition to the dead, several dozen others were injured. Some of them would be in serious condition.

Photos on social media show that children are also among the victims. They lay, possibly unconscious, on the ground in front of the entrances to the Paul Biya stadium.

Despite everything, the game started at the usual time and was played out normally. Cameroon, with Ajax’s André Onana in the goal, won 2-1 and qualified for the quarterfinals. Presumably the players were not aware of the disturbances at that time.
