At least 32 dead after fire on ferry in Bangladesh | Abroad

The local police chief says most people died as a result of the fire. Several others drowned after jumping into the river. The death toll could rise further, he said. About 100 burn victims were also taken to hospital.

The fire probably started in the ship’s engine room and then quickly spread across the ferry, which had departed from Dhaka.

Low-lying Bangladesh with many wide rivers is often the scene of ferry accidents.
