At HSV against Rostock: Hamburg fans cause a scandal

HSV’s home game was marked by the death of Uwe Seeler. Some “fans” used the stage to share inhuman ideas.

Some “fans” of the Hamburg sports club attracted negative attention on Sunday afternoon with an inhuman banner. During the game against Hansa Rostock, which HSV ultimately lost 1-0, some spectators raised a homophobic banner.

“The whole of MV (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, editor’s note) is gay – especially the Hansa Hool,” read in black letters on a white background. Just a few meters above were the posters in memory of the recently deceased club legend Uwe Seeler.

A few hours after the final whistle, HSV positioned itself via Twitter – and publicly condemned the banner statement made. “We clearly distance ourselves from discriminatory content. Discrimination has no place in the Volksparkstadion and at HSV! Our diamond stands for variety and diversity,” said the Rothosen in their statement.

HSV had previously played their first home game of the 2022/23 season and missed the second win they had hoped for after the 2-0 start at Eintracht Braunschweig.
