Another low blow for Shinji Kagawa

In the championship years 2011 and 2012, Shinji Kagawa became an absolute darling of the public at Borussia Dortmund. After that, the Japanese’s career went almost steadily downhill. Just before Christmas of all times, the ex-BVB professional now suffered another setback.

Shinji Kagawa once delighted BVB fans with remarkable speed dribbling, many goals and numerous assists for his teammates.

In 2011, the playmaker, who had come as a bargain from the Japanese second division the previous summer, won the Bundesliga championship with Borussia. 2012 even the first and so far only double in the club’s history.

Then Kagawa followed his footballing dream (as well as a financially very lucrative offer) and moved to Manchester United in the English Premier League.

Second BVB guest appearance goes in the pants

He did not have a breakthrough with the Red Devils, and in 2014 Kagawa returned to BVB for a second engagement. The noble technician, who is only 1.75 meters tall, was unable to build on his old achievements.

At the beginning of 2019 loaned to Besiktas in BVB, six months later Kagawa moved to Real Saragossa. He made no lasting impression on either club. Between October 2020 and January 2021, Kagawa was even without a club.

This fate now threatens Kagawa again. Because the guest performance at PAOK Saloniki, which only started at the beginning of the year, has already ended. Last Saturday, the Greeks announced the termination of their contract with the now 32-year-old professional on December 31st.

Emotional Instagram statement from Shinji Kagawa

Kagawa, who only completed 138 minutes of missions over four missions for PAOK, spoke up on Instagram on the Thursday before Christmas Eve.

“Dear PAOK fans, players and those responsible. I apologize for not being able to meet your expectations. I appreciate your support. Best wishes and thank you,” said his statement.

How things will go on for Kagawa is open. According to media reports from his homeland, he could be drawn back to Cerezo Osaka, the club from which BVB signed him more than a decade ago.
