The 23-year-old, who was eliminated in the first round of the German duel with Alexander Zverev at the Australian Open in Melbourne, won his opening game against the local wildcard starter Prajnesh Gunneswaran 7: 6 (7: 5), 6: 2.
Altmaier’s opponent in the round of the top 16 is Radu Albot from Moldova.
