Altmaier first German round of 16 in Hamburg

Daniel Altmaier was the first German to reach the round of 16 at the ATP tournament in Hamburg. The 24-year-old won his opening match against French veteran Richard Gasquet 7: 5, 6: 4.

In the round of the top 16, Altmaier meets the winner of the first round duel between number two seeded Bastad winner Andrey Rublev (Russia) and the Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles.

In addition to Altmaier, four other German professionals will be playing at Rothenbaum. The most prominent player in the German quintet is Olympic champion and local hero Alexander Zverev.
