Alpine skiing – giant slalom in Courchevel: Shiffrin wins with a ski gala – Alpine skiing – winter sports

Shiffrin had already outdone Swiss Michelle Gisin for three quarters of a second in the first run on the badly frozen piste in the Trois Vallées and then could not be denied the triumph. At the end of a terrific performance in both rounds, she had a lead of 0.86 seconds.

“Course demanded everything from me”

The Swede Sara Hector was also very happy in the finish area, who confirmed her excellent first run and raced past Gisin to a surprising second place with a real pull on her skis.

Shiffrin then cheered: “It was extremely demanding, the course really demanded everything from me. But also a very big compliment to Michelle and Sara, who totally deserved the podium.”

Goggia is eliminated

Speed specialist Sofia Goggia, who led the overall World Cup ahead of Courchevel from Shiffrin, missed important points this time. The Italian started the second round in tenth place, but got stuck on the gate when entering the middle sector and was eliminated.

Petra Vlhová, another Shiffrin competitor for the overall World Cup, had pretty much ruined the first run and was almost two seconds behind. With a very courageous second run, however, the Slovak did more than damage control and moved up to fourth place.
