Almost 8 thousand people were detained for participating in riots in Kazakhstan – RBK

7,939 people were detained in Kazakhstan as a result of riots, transfers Tengrinews with reference to the operational headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic.

In particular, of this number, 207 people were detained in two markets in Almaty. In addition, the police seized five stolen vehicles, two cold steel weapons and four firearms, as well as stolen property.

The day before, on January 9, the press service of the President of the Republic, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, following the results of a meeting of the operational headquarters, announced the arrest of 5.8 thousand people involved in the riots. In addition, 125 criminal cases were opened.

The press service noted that there were “a significant number of foreigners” among those detained. The country’s security services are focused on finding and arresting “terrorists”, collecting evidence and conducting examinations, the authorities said.
