Director Dick Benschop said this in the House of Representatives, where he will provide text and explanation about the queues that have been plaguing the airport for weeks. ‘We are going to make the cut for a higher salary and better working conditions,’ says Benschop. According to him, the agreement will be signed and presented on Wednesday. FNV negotiator Joost van Doesburg also confirms that there is an agreement that the union will present to the members.

Van Doesburg is ‘very pleased’ with what is in the agreement. The trade unions had increased the pressure considerably in the past period: if there is no agreement by Wednesday 1 June, strikes would follow. Benschop previously stated in television program Buitenhof that it won’t come to that. ‘We no longer want to focus on costs, outsourcing and flexibility, but on decent working conditions’, he said at the time.

Due to an acute shortage of security officers and baggage dealers and a rapid increase in the number of travelers after the corona crisis, Schiphol has been struggling with extremely long waiting times for weeks. The airport last week presented an action plan to resolve these chaotic scenes before the summer.

The situation at Schiphol has gotten so out of hand in recent weeks that the cabinet, co-owner of the airport, is demanding weekly reports on the steps being taken to resolve the chaos at the airport.
