From the dream: Former European champion Gina Lückenkemper narrowly missed the desired move into a World Cup final over 100 m.
In her semi -finals of Tokyo, the German champion ran fourth in 11.11 seconds and retired. The final in the evening (3:13 p.m. MESZ/ZDF and Eurosport) takes place once again without German participation.
The 28-year-old Lückenkemper (Berlin) made the next attempt in Japan to achieve a World Cup final via her parade route for the first time in the title fights in Japan. As the last German sprinter to date, the Melanie Paschke was successful in Athens in 1997.
However, as with her previous attempts in London (2017), Doha (2019), Eugene (2022) and Budapest (2023), each was in the preliminary round. Lückenkemper came out of the block well on lane 2 – in the end her nine hundredths of a second were missing.
“The race felt much better than yesterday,” said Lückenkemper in the “ZDF” with a view to her lead (11.12 seconds): “I don’t really understand why it is only an 11:11 in quotes. I don’t really have anything to accuse myself.”
The other two German sprinters, Lisa Mayer (Wetzlar) and Sina Mayer (Zweibrücken), were already excreted in the run -up. Lückenkemper had survived this as fourth in her race despite top -class opponents such as defending champion Sha’carri Richardson (USA) because she put on the best time of the three time in 11.12 seconds.
After a completely screwed -up start, world champion Richardson only secured her final participation as one of two timeliest in 11.00 seconds.
Olympic champion Julien Alfred (Saint Lucia/10.93) moved into the final with a very casual appearance as well as 200 m world champion Shericka Jackson (Jamaica/10.97) and top favorite Melissa Jefferson-Wooden (USA/10.73). The two-time 100 m Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (11.00) from Jamaica also mixes with her last World Cup appearance in the fight for gold, silver and bronze.
