Hamburger SV won against Jahn Regensburg in the 2nd Bundesliga. The “red pants” were early behind.
Late goals from Ransford Königsdörffer and Robert Glatzel gave the top favorites Hamburger SV another important victory in the fight for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. The ex-Dresdner Königsdörffer scored in the 79th and Glatzel in the 90th minute to make it 3-1 (1-1) against Jahn Regensburg. With 31 points, HSV moved up to just one point behind table leaders Darmstadt 98.
A week after the 3-2 draw at SC Paderborn, Marion Vuskovic (12th minute) had made up for Kaan Caliskaner’s (7th) early deficit. Glatzel also missed a penalty kick for Hamburg in front of 51,314 spectators (49th).
Regensburg uses the first chance
Der Jahn, who had to play without his sick head coach Mersad Selimbegovic, immediately took the first chance: Caliskaner used a through pass from Joshua Mees to score his third goal of the season. The HSV reacted quickly: Vuskovic scored from a distance after an actually unsuccessful pass from Sonny Kittel. Hamburg’s keeper Daniel Heuer Fernandez prevented another deficit with strong saves against Andreas Albers (14th) and Caliskaner (16th).
After that, the hosts took control of the game and created their own chances, but Glatzel (25′), Königsdörffer (29′) and Kittel (36′) all narrowly missed.
Glatzel fails from the point
Shortly after the break, after a duel between Kittel and Jan Elvedi, referee Sascha Stegemann decided on a penalty when looking at the video evidence, but Glatzel was denied by Jahn goalkeeper Thorsten Kirschbaum (49th), who also defused a Königsdörffer shot six minutes later.
Ben’s spectacular
Laszlo Benes just missed the target with a spectacular flight with the heel – and presumably the goal of the year (60th). The action was reminiscent of Fritz Walter’s so-called “goal of the century” in 1956. Six minutes later, the ex-Gladbacher hit the post.
Before kick-off, HSV had announced the extension of the contract with Dutchman Ludovit Reis (22) until 2026. The U21 national player of the Netherlands switched to the Elbe from the second team of FC Barcelona last summer.
Regensburg now against Braunschweig
On the 16th matchday, Regensburg welcomes the promoted team from Braunschweig (Wednesday, November 9th, 2022 at 6.30 p.m.). At the same time, HSV is required to play away in Fürth.
