Additional test centers and help from commercial testers to keep up with the corona peak

The number of people who report to the GGD every day for a corona test has risen to unprecedented levels in recent days. New test centers are therefore being set up in several places in the province. From Wednesday, we will also be working with commercial testers to meet the demand.

Due to the rapidly increasing number of infections, more and more people want to do a corona test at the GGD.

New locations
The GGD West Brabant has carried out almost 4000 tests a day in recent days. That will be about 5000 from next week when a new test center in Bergen op Zoom opens its doors. “We are breaking records week after week and numbers are rising. We expect these high numbers to continue for some time to come,” said a spokesperson. If necessary, the locations can also be opened in the evening, so that even more people can be tested.

In the GGD region Southeast Brabant they were on about 6000 tests a day in recent days. There will soon be more, because a new test location in Helmond opened this week. In total, the GGD in this part of Brabant wants to be able to perform 7,000 tests per day.

At the GGD Hart voor Brabant, they have taken about 9000 tests a day in recent days. At the end of last year there were still about 3,000. Upscaling is not possible there.

It was also very busy in Uden on Wednesday:

The pressure is great. There is already a considerable backlog nationally in processing all test results, and the laboratories that have to analyze the tests can hardly cope anymore.

That is why a collaboration has been started with the Open Netherlands Foundation. This ensures that from now on people can also contact the commercial test companies. There are dozens of these scattered across the province.
