Abandoned game in Duisburg: the police see no incident of racism – football – sport

According to the police, the results could not prove the accusation that the Home game of the third division football team on December 19th made a racist statement by the accused spectator to the dark-skinned Osnabrück player Aaron Opoku.

According to their own statements, the investigating authorities have now handed over the files to the public prosecutor’s office. The public prosecutor’s office will decide how to proceed in the case. The MSV confirmed the report and was “very relieved that at this point in time and according to the police investigation results published today, which unfortunately are not yet available to the MSV, the suspicion of racism has not been substantiated.”

Game will be repeated in February

The first game of the second half of the season was interrupted by referee Nicolas Winter in the 33rd minute when the score was 0-0 shortly before Christmas due to the suspected racist incident. After that, VfL Osnabrück was unable to continue the game. It was the first time that a game in German professional football was canceled because of an alleged racist statement.

The DFB has now decided the encounter February 2 at 7 p.m to be repeated in the Duisburg Arena.
