Billy Corgan has announced opera concerts for “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” for November 2025-in line with the 30th anniversary of the Smashing Pumpkins album.

The record appeared specifically on October 23, 1995. To celebrate the whole thing, Corgan and the Lyric Opera of Chicago shows in the singer’s hometown, songwriter and guitarist – in the style of how the front man had wanted for a long time.

Fusion of opera and rock

Here is more information about gig planning: According to “Consquence of Sounds”, the album is to be reinterpreted on seven evenings of the next opera season. The concerts are described as “urgent acoustic and visual experiences” that are “blurred the boundaries between opera, rock and performance”. The newly commissioned arrangements and orchestions come from Corgan himself and the conductor James Lowe.

Corgan himself said that both the opera and the skirt “tell stories with great emotions”. And further: “I am looking forward to the fact that both the fans of my music and the traditional opera fans get a truly inspired work, because this is about honoring both traditions in a masterly way,” said the 57-year-old.

John Mangum, the general director, President and CEO of the Lyric Opera of Chicago, added: “I am also looking forward to the special performances of” Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness “, which open the eye and the definition of opera and what an American opera society can be.”
