Sven (35) received the award from Minister Conny Helder of Sport for his “unique” achievements in sport. The proud Frisian says he is very honored. “I didn’t see this one coming. I am very grateful and hope that I have been able to inspire people. I also hope they enjoy it as much as I did.”
Sven received more good news on Monday, because he and his partner Naomi van As are happily expecting their second child. The couple already has a daughter: Kae (3).
Also goodbye Irene
Not only Sven said goodbye on Saturday. Ireen Wüst also called it a day. She placed fourth in the 1,500 meters. Ireen was already royally decorated. Last month, she was the first athlete to be named Commander in the Order of Orange-Nassau at the honoring of the Olympic medalists in The Hague.
The skaters all had Giro 555 on their skates at the last skating event of the season on Saturday, instead of the usual sponsors. These skate suits with signature will soon be auctioned and the proceeds will go to the victims of the war in Ukraine.
