Holstein Kiel and VfL Bochum missed to take a big step in the relegation battle of the Bundesliga. The direct meeting on the 21st matchday ended on Sunday (09.02.2025) with 2: 2 (1: 2).
Steven Skrzybski put Kiel in the lead with a penalty in the 3rd minute. Myrom Boadu turned the game in favor of VfL (37th, 39th). David Zec ensured the final score in the 50th minute.
In the table, everything remains the same. Bochum is the bottom of the table, two points behind Holstein Kiel. After all, the distance to the table-16 is. 1. FC Heidenheim shrunk a little. The KSV is only one counter behind the Heidenheimers.
Skrzybski hits the point early
The game didn’t take long to get at the operating temperature. In the second minute of the game, a cross from Kiel’s John Tolkin landed on the arm of Bochum’s Felix Passlack. The problem with this: Passlack was in his own penalty area, referee Felix Zwayer pointed to the penalty point. Skrzybski took responsibility and took care of the early Kiel lead with a shot in the left goal (3rd).
Bochum registered for the first time in the eleventh minutes. Gerrit Holtmann flanked the Kiel five -meter room on Boadu, Kiels Marco Komenda threw himself in between at the last moment. On the other hand, Nicolai Remberg narrowly missed the 2-0 (14th) with a direct acceptance.
Afterwards, however, the game rippled a little. Many injury interruptions disturbed the flow of the game.
Boadu laces the fast double pack
The Bochum compensation fell out of nowhere in the 37th minute. Matúš Bero prevailed in midfield against two Kiel and sent Boadu steep. The striker dribbled into the penalty area and hit the short corner from the left. Kiel’s goalkeeper Timon Weiner was still on the ball, but could not prevent the impact.
And only 123 seconds later the VfL even took the lead. Passlack headed a long flank from the right side in front of the gate. There was Boadu on the spot again and laced the double pack (39.) by head from a short distance.
Bochum subsequently had other chances from Holtmann (42nd) and Passlack (44th), but also had to accept a small setback in added time. Double packer Boadu came to the rear thigh after a sprint and had to be replaced.
Bochum wants to extend with Hecking
In the halftime, Bochum’s managing director Ilja Kaenzig announced that she wanted to plan with coach Dieter Hecking beyond the season. Corresponding talks should take place soon. “Then, according to Dieter, we would like to tie down the future”said Kaenzig at “DAZN”.
The second half then started just like the first: with an early Kiel goal. This time it was not a penalty, but a free kick. Tolin hit the penalty area from the half field. ZEC headed the ball into the Bochum Tor (49th).
Both teams then searched the way forward. The Kielers were closer to the goal. In the 67th minute, Remberg falsified a shot on the post.
Holtby goal does not count
Six minutes later, the ball was actually in the Bochum goal. Lewis Holtby had hit the lower right corner from 15 meters. However, Holtby also met Bochum’s Tom Krauss by hand in the face. Zwayer looked at the scene on the screen and took the goal back.
Kiel had more of the game in the final phase. A hit should no longer be scored. Jan-Fiete ARP missed the best chance when he shot over the goal from 14 meters in the 84th minute. With the last campaign, VfL came again: Passlack shot from ten meters on the right. Immediately afterwards was over.
Kiel in Frankfurt, Bochum against Dortmund
On the 22nd matchday, Kiel travels to Eintracht in Frankfurt (16.02., 5.30 p.m.). Bochum receives BVB (3:30 p.m.) the day before.
