Holstein Kiel and VfL Bochum met in the relegation duel on Sunday. The clubs fought a competitive duel with several twists.

Everything is still possible in the table cellar in the Bundesliga. Holstein Kiel and VfL Bochum separate only a few points. On Sunday, the clubs met in the relegation duel. This was very competitive and provided a lot of spectacle. In the end, the teams shared the points after a 2: 2.

So nothing changes in the table. Kiel stays two points ahead of Bochum.

Less than five minutes were played when the hosts got a penalty. What happened? After a corner of the Kielers, their defender John Tolkin flanked on the goal. However, the ball hit the spread arm of Bochum’s Felix Passlack. Referee Felix Zwayer, who had a perfect view of the situation, decided directly on penalty and Steven Skrzybski turned 1-0 (2nd) for the “storks”.

Shortly afterwards there was the next excitement when the Bochumer claimed a handball after a free kick. Zwayer did not have a good view, but indicated that the situation was checked by the VAR. However, there was no penalty.

The Bochumer seemed surprised by the goal, but then fought their way back into the game and showed themselves aggressively – with success. In the 37th minute, the guests equalized through Myron Boadu. And just two minutes later the striker was on the spot again and headed for 2-0 for the Bochumer – VfL turned the game.

Bitters for the guests: Boadu had to get off the pitch in the added time of the first half. At the beginning of the second half, the hosts turned up again – and had a huge chance through Armin Gigović. However, the shot of the midfielder was deflected and passed the right post.

But just a few minutes later, Kiel cheered about the equalization by David Zec. The defender scored 2-2 (50th) – everything was open again. And there were good chances on both sides. However, it was again the Kielers who met in the 74th minute.

However, Lewis Holtby’s goal triggered discussions and referee Zwayer was asked to look out again before the goal. The Bochumers complained of a foul from Holtby to Tom Krauss in the creation of the gate. The referee then took the goal back. There were protests, but the game continued.

Shortly before the end, Fiete Arp still had a huge chance for Kiel. However, his shot hit the crossbar. Both teams shared the points.
