Billy Gibbons and his band, The BFG’s, have already released “Livin’ It Up Down in Texas”. Now the musician indicated that the single is just the start of other new songs that will be released this year. He also wants to release new material with ZZ Top in 2025.

“We were in the studio working on new material for BFG and a ZZ Top track with Frank (Beard) and Ellwood (Francis),” Gibbons said “Ultimate Classic Rock”. The new song, which the 75-year-old described as a “little detour,” premiered during the season finale of the series “Landman” (Paramount+).

Gibbons was also able to give a specific status regarding the work on new music. He said that recording for the other projects was “about half complete” and added: “I suspect there will be something new coming in 2025 for both BFG and ZZ.”

ZZ Top and Billy Gibbons are on tour for now

But it won’t be easy to get the new pieces ready quickly. According to Gibbons, this is mainly because he and the BFG’s as well as ZZ Top simply “like to get on the tour bus”. “The challenge is finding time to bring everything together in a recording studio.” Apparently there are also demos with Dusty Hill, who died in 2021. ZZ Top were seen live in Germany last year.

However, it has been a long time since the last new releases. The BFG’s, which now also includes Mike “The Drifter” Flanigin on keyboards and new drummer Chris “Whipper” Layton from Stevie Ray Vaughan’s Double Trouble, last released the LP “Hardware” four years ago. At ZZ Top it was even longer ago. There hasn’t been a new record since “La Futura” in 2012.
