Councilor Jeannet Bos (D66) will resign her duties in the municipality of Meppel with immediate effect. She did not feel at home in her position.

“I have put my heart and soul into my role as alderman for the beautiful municipality of Meppel. And for some time now I have been wondering whether this way of working is the right one for me. After last Thursday’s committee meeting, I went there again last weekend. I have looked at it carefully. I have come to the conclusion that it is better for me to stop as councilor.”

The council respects the decision of the alderman and the members of the council will immediately take over Bos’s work temporarily.

Bos (60) has been an alderman in Meppel since May 2022. Before that, she was active for four years as party leader of the D66 in the municipal council. As alderman, Bos was responsible for sports and health, youth care, education and culture, among other things.

Her work was the subject of discussion in the council several times. In June 2023, the entire opposition supported a motion of censure over her response to an interview with her in the Meppeler Courantabout the Grote Kerk. A vote of lamentation followed at the end of that year. Several parties lacked empathy from the councilor during a debate on youth work. Ultimately, that motion did not receive a majority.

Two months ago, the SP submitted another motion of censure during the budget meeting. That motion did not receive support from other parties, but they did say that it was her last chance to show improvement.
