To mark the 30th anniversary of the city partnership between Berlin and Beijing, there will be a special concert in the capital on Wednesday (January 22nd, 8 p.m.) that combines classical music by Brahms, Mozart and Wagner with Chinese rock music.
Not only do Chinese artists perform in the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic, the Chinese rock institution MOSAIK Band (碎瓷) also performs their own set. The group is one of China’s oldest rock bands. Their singer, Trystan Huang, knows the Berlin music scene well and combines authentic rock with Asian melodies. The finale will be a homage in which the orchestra and rock band will perform together.
The concert begins with a performance by conductor Cara Xu, who trained at the Juilliard School in New York and Columbia University. With the support of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, she presents classical works from the West and East.

A highlight will then be the premiere of a rock variation of the famous Chinese overture “Spring Festival” by star composer Elliot Leung, composed especially for this occasion.
The event is organized by the Chinese-born Berliner and entrepreneur Prof. Yu Zhang, President of the Society for German-Chinese Cultural Exchange (GeKA). In addition to the host, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, and the Chinese Ambassador HE DENG Hongbo will also be guests.
