The top asphalt layer of the bridge is worn and is being replaced to prevent slippery spots and therefore unsafe situations. During maintenance, the old wearing layer is blasted away and a new top layer is applied, including lines. A tent will be placed over the bridge so that the work can continue even in bad weather.

It is expected that people will take up to 35 minutes longer to get to their destination via the detour route.

The cycle path along the bridge remains accessible to pedestrians, cyclists, mopeds and emergency services. Residents on the east side of the bridge will receive an exemption. The road was also closed a month ago because a culvert was being replaced near Monnickendam.
