Mara Pérez Reynoso announced on Twitter that she left the National Directorate of Sexual and Reproductive Health of the Ministry of Health of the Nation. The resignation was known within hours of the march through the tenth anniversary of Ni Una Menosand at a time when the programs under its orbit are going through unprecedented defunding.
The official is a PRO representative historically linked to Patricia Bullrich. During the Macri administration, Bullrich had incorporated her into the Ministry of Security in 2016, presenting her as the first trans woman to hold office in that wallet.
He had assumed the Directorate in December 2024, as part of the bullrichista troop that joined milleism after the presidential defeat of 2023. His arrival was, in that sense, part of the political price that La Libertad Avanza paid for the incorporation of the PRO into the government coalition.
His departure, at a time when the relationship between Bullrich and Milei goes through one of its most visible tensionsdoes not seem like an isolated episode: it is one more casualty in the shift of the bullrichist space within the ruling party.
In his farewell, Pérez Reynoso highlighted having regularized input acquisition processes, established a monthly federal table with the provinces and reoriented the area’s focus toward “a family development perspective.” He didn’t mention the numbers that tell a different story.
According to a report from the Latin American Justice and Gender Team (ELA), the budget executed by the program showed a reduction of 87% in real terms compared to 2023. The ENIA Plan —the program to prevent unintentional pregnancy in adolescence—was practically paralyzed: today it has barely 19 agents assigned and without resources for territorial implementation.
In the first months of Milei’s administration, funds were suspended in five provinces, which generated the dismissal of 619 people of operational teams. The situation led to legal action by the Ombudsman for Girls, Boys and Adolescents against the Ministry of Health. Contraceptive purchasing processes remain halted and the production of health statistics has been interrupted.
Pérez Reynoso closed his message by claiming to have worked “with conviction, professionalism and a vocation for service,” and promised to continue defending the ideas of freedom. The functions are transitory. The consequences, no.
