After a disappointing Formula 1 season, Red Bull has parted ways with Sergio Pérez. The Mexican’s poor results ultimately left the team with no choice. However, one expert is firmly convinced that Checo was often let down.

The expulsion of Sergio Pérez is still a topic of conversation in Formula 1 circles. The question is not why the racing team kicked the Mexican out, but rather how this why could have happened in the first place, after all, Checo didn’t suddenly forget how to drive.

“Viaplay” commentator Nelson Valkenburg believes that the team played a large part in the separation and the 34-year-old’s poor results.

“Partly it was the car. He was often four tenths behind Max Verstappen, but this season there were suddenly ten cars between them,” explained the commentator in an interview with the “RacingNews365” portal.

Formula 1: “Pérez was not helped”

Valkenburg also placed another part of the blame on the Mexican’s race engineer. This often made things “ridiculously difficult” for Checo, especially in qualifying.

“There were at least five cases in which him [Pérez] There was no help from the pits and he simply didn’t have enough time for another lap. They just expected him to [im ersten Quali-Stint] would drive just as fast as Verstappen. But you have to say goodbye to this idea. That doesn’t exist. If we talk about qualifying, no one can do what Verstappen does. With the exception of Charles Leclerc perhaps,” said the expert.

The Red Bull bosses will have to say goodbye to these high expectations in the future, said Valkenburg, who also admitted that there was no alternative to leaving Pérez after the Mexican got more and more “off track” over the course of the season.
