Due to the freezing temperatures, it was very slippery in various places in West Flanders on Sunday morning, resulting in many falls. The emergency services received numerous calls, especially in the Bruges-Oostkamp and Izegem-Ardooie regions. “It became a bit tight in terms of ambulances. There were just too few. That is why it was decided to announce the pre-alert so that extra Red Cross ambulances could be deployed,” says Durnez.
After about two hours the situation has normalized again. “The peak could be absorbed and the pre-alarm has no longer been in force since around noon. If necessary this evening or early tomorrow, we can switch again.”
