Two young people were caught on the night from Saturday to Sunday when they were walking around Steenenburg Castle, also known as ‘the Pink Castle’ of the former Land van Ooit amusement park in Drunen. The police reported this on Instagram.
The castle, which is still kind of pink, is located on the Steenenburg Estate. The estate is open to the public during the day. The site is closed in the evenings and you are not allowed to enter.
The castle itself, officially called Castle d’Oultremont, is not open to the public, it is being renovated.
The boys received a ticket and were sent away, the police said.
“If a building is surrounded by fences or there is a sign with the text ‘prohibited for unauthorized persons’, it is punishable to enter the site or the building,” the police make it even clearer on Instagram. “If you do this, you risk a fine of up to 450 euros.”
Videos of urbexers
The former Land of Once is popular among ‘urbexers‘, these are people who visit abandoned places and buildings for the hobby, while in many cases this is punishable and sometimes dangerous.
Numerous videos of it are circulating on the internet urbexers who have secretly visited the Land of Once.
The well-known theme park went bankrupt in 2007, after which the municipality took it over. The estate was temporarily closed to the public, but is now accessible again as a walking area. The municipality eventually sold the estate and a green residential area with medical facilities will be built there.
In April last year, urbexers made this video of the former park:
