Didier Deschamps has been coaching the “Équipe Tricolore” for almost 13 years. But this era is apparently coming to an end soon.

According to media reports, France’s national coach Didier Deschamps will step down from his position after the 2026 World Cup. The 56-year-old wants to speak about his future on the French TV channel TF1 this Wednesday at 1 p.m. His contract expires after the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

This would mean France is facing a major upheaval. Deschamps, who has been in charge of the “Équipe Tricolore” since 2012, has had a significant influence on football in the country. Under his leadership, Les Bleus won their second World Cup title in Russia in 2018. He had previously replaced Laurent Blanc as national coach. In recent years, however, there has been increasing criticism of his decisions and the team’s development.

Deschamps’ successes are not limited to his coaching career. As a player, he led France to the World Cup title on home soil in 1998 and became European champions two years later. At club level, he triumphed twice in the Champions League: in 1993 with Olympique Marseille and in 1996 with Juventus Turin.
