Mariska Bauer is addicted to botox. Does she use it for a younger appearance and against wrinkles? Well, that doesn’t matter at all. “I no longer need sunglasses,” she explains.
Botox, fillers, injectables: many famous women can’t keep their hands off them. And the usual Mariska Bauer is now half made of plastic. Yet Frans Bauer’s wife finds it difficult to admit that this is driven by vanity. She tells in the Weekend that she uses it mainly for practical reasons.
Against the headache
What does Mariska use it for? “I do it for headaches and things like that. I started to frown and that squeezing always gave me a headache. I don’t have that anymore, so it helps. I can also look into the sun just fine again. I hardly need sunglasses anymore, which is very nice.”
Botox makes it physically harder to frown, even when the sun is shining brightly. This can ensure that she experiences less discomfort from sunlight, because she does not build up tension in her facial muscles.
Natural reflex
However, frowning and squinting are natural reflexes to protect the eyes from bright sunlight, so by not wearing sunglasses, Mariska risks UV damage to the eye lens and retina. This can even lead to surgery to replace her eye lens with an artificial lens. So from the rain to the drip.
Is this really Mariska’s reason? “You know, everyone uses Botox. Is that so bad? I really don’t mind that,” she says. “For the rest? A cream, a thing. And other than that, it is the way it is.”
