Yle Areena support for older smart TVs ends in the spring.
Yle Areena will no longer work on certain older smart TVs from mid-April. All Over Press
Yle has listed on their website smart television models whose support for the Yle Areena application will end in mid-April 2025.
– The television’s own applications are an easy way to consume streaming services, but they stop working when the television model’s software becomes old enough or the television’s performance is no longer sufficient, Yle says on its website.
It says it strives to provide as long as possible support for various television models, but at some point the older ones have to be let go.
– As technology and equipment performance develop, the differences between the latest and older televisions grow, and at the same time we have to guarantee the stable functionality of Yle Areena.
The decision to end support for a particular device is not only related to its performance, but also to, for example, information security. Some of the televisions of older model years will get a new replacement application.
Be the first to report on the topic Helsingin Sanomat. Yle’s strategy and customer relationship manager Marit af Björkesten told Hesar that the apps on the older devices were made by partners.
– Those applications have fallen behind in development and do not work as Areena should. Today, we develop them ourselves, so they are constantly updated and meet all requirements, af Björkesten told Helsingin Sanomat.
