Hoogeveen is waiving sixteen containers for used diapers and incontinence materials. A council majority does not yet see the benefit of it and is therefore rejecting the plan for the time being.
The idea was to put used diapers in a separate container so that they would not end up in the gray container. According to the municipality, this results in less residual waste. However, Hoogeveen cannot yet process that type of waste separately.
And that means that after collection it still ends up in the pile with residual waste. That is why the CDA, D66, Forum for Democracy, Municipal Interests, SGP and the VVD consider it useless and a waste of money.
Councilor Jeroen Westendorp (Christian Union) previously announced that the municipality consciously chooses to opt for diaper containers. By collecting separately now, the municipality is preparing for the future, he says.
If the diapers and incontinence materials can be processed in the future, the municipality already has experience with collection. And the gray container becomes emptier.
During an earlier debate, the VVD already stated that it considered it degrading to walk across the street with feces towards such a container. “You don’t want to walk across the street with three bags full of diapers,” the CDA added.
Those comments were not taken lightly by proponents of the containers. The PvdA found an excellent solution, especially for people with children who want to quickly drop off a diaper when they are somewhere.
The SP stated that not only old people use incontinence materials. Young people do that too. It is all the more convenient that there are special containers for this, according to the Socialist Party.
