A grenade from the Second World War was found in the Efteling on Wednesday morning. This happened during major maintenance around the castle of the fairytale princess.
Major maintenance has been taking place at the castle for weeks, including with a view to making it more sustainable. Paving work was being done on Wednesday and that’s when the explosive was found. A spokesperson says against it Brabants Dagblad that the explosive ordnance disposal service (EOD) was immediately called in.
Parts of the amusement park were temporarily closed so that the grenade could be removed. The Carnival Festival, the Pagoda and Vogel Rok, among others, were briefly closed to the public. At no time were visitors in danger.
It often happens that something from the Second World War is found in Efteling. According to the spokesperson, this has to do with the area where the park is located. A grenade was also found in 2017, during work around Aquanura. Then a performance in the Efteling theater could not go ahead.
It is not yet known what will happen to the grenade.
