Last week Tim Walter had to leave as HSV coach. Now the people of Hamburg have apparently made contact with a possible successor.
According to media reports, Hamburger SV is looking more closely at ex-Cologne player Steffen Baumgart in its search for a new coach. As the “Hamburger Morgenpost” and the “Hamburger Abendblatt” reported on Monday, contact between the second division club and the 52-year-old is said to have occurred for the first time on Sunday.
After Hamburger SV’s disappointing performance at Hansa Rostock (2:2) under interim coach Merlin Polzin, there are increasing signs that HSV could sign a new coach. Baumgart, who had to leave as coach of 1. FC Köln in December, is considered a HSV sympathizer. After Tim Walter left last week, the 33-year-old Polzin initially took over the team on an interim basis.
According to several media reports, HSV around sports director Jonas Boldt is also said to be dealing with Lukas Kwasniok from league rival SC Paderborn. It remains questionable whether Paderborn would hand over its coach in the current season.
