The new US sprint star Jordan Stolz set the highlight of the first day of the Speed Skating World Cup in Salt Lake City with a world record.
On the 2002 Olympic track, the 19-year-old American won the 1,000 meters on Friday in 1:05.37 minutes, improving the previous record set by the Russian Pavel Kulischnikov from 2015 by 0.32 seconds.
Competition outclassed
The world champion in the 500, 1000 and 1500 meter distances outclassed the entire competition. China’s Ning Zhongyan came second in 1:06.97 minutes ahead of David Bosa from Italy in 1:07.06 minutes. The best German was Moritz Klein from Erfurt in 1:07.71 minutes in a good tenth place. Munich’s Hendrik Dombek came 16th in a personal best time of 1:08.09 minutes.
