Susana’s 80’s: birthday in Punta del Este

Susana Giménez is preparing to celebrate her birthday. But it’s not just another year. The diva will turn 80 next Monday, January 29, and not only does the arrival of a new decade find her different from what she was years ago, but she also plans to celebrate it in style by holding a special party with 60 VIP guests at “La Mary”, its famous farm located in Rincón del Indio, Punta del Este.
“Preparations have already begun six months ago. “So he’s going to go all out,” one of the lucky ones on the guest list explains to NOTICIAS about the upcoming party. But beyond the celebration, the truth is that Giménez reaches his eighth decade with a different profile. Those who know her closely explain that the diva “is changed, much more relaxed.” Not only with regard to her public and work life, but even with her image. An issue that was the karma of her life and for which she more than once admitted having suffered, today no longer affects her. The new Susana, as she entered her 80s, changed her priorities.
Routine. Living in Uruguay since the pandemic, Susana was changing her habits and less public exposure helped her “reorder her priorities,” say those around her. “She is calm and she doesn’t want to be bothered,” she summarizes. That search for tranquility is what, for example, led her to decide to retire from the theater. Even though “Piel de Judas,” which is playing at the Enjoy in Punta del Este, is a box office success, the diva no longer wants to continue. In mid-2023 she announced that her current one would be her last theater season and on January 27, a couple of days before she turns 80, her retirement from the stage is expected to be a special moment. “I received the proposal and said ‘well, then I’ll take advantage and retire from the theater, because it’s really what tires me the most,’” she explained about the reason that led her to make her decision. Giménez prioritizes taking care of her and not submitting to the rigor of the scenarios at this point in her life. She will return to television, to the Telefe screen, in the middle of this year, with her traditional program. “That’s less tiring because it’s live,” she explained.
This relaxation leads her to face in a different way what was a big problem for her for a long time: her image and how to deal with criticism about how she looks. The diva was one of the first to use and abuse photoshop and, in fact, she starred in bizarre situations due to excessive editing of her photos in order to show an idyllic image. “She is much calmer. She shows herself as she is and she cares less and less about ‘what they will say,'” they tell NOTICIAS, although they quickly add: “That doesn’t mean that she isn’t flirtatious and that she doesn’t like to look good, on the contrary, she loves it, but “She does it for her and no longer for what they can tell her.”
When isolation occurred as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Giménez decided to stay in Uruguay. And it is there that he was finding new habits of life that also explain this renewed Susana. Relaxed, the diva usually wakes up around noon and her days end up being very similar to each other. “Every day is similar. I read the paper diary first of all. There I have a little tea, I bathe, I get dressed and I take the dogs to eat,” she explained about her habits once the day started. The reason why she only wakes up at that time is because she stays up late. Only around 5 or 6 in the morning does she manage to fall asleep and, sometimes, as she confessed, she resorts to the help of Alplax to fall asleep.
The reason for his long mornings is not nights out, but on the contrary, it is a vice that he cannot stop: video games. Candy Crush, the game in which you have to collect fruits to eliminate them from the board, is captivating. The application, which became a boom after its launch in 2012, currently has 7,415 levels and 498 episodes due to the large number of fans it generated around the world, and Susana is one of them. In fact, the diva usually buys “extra lives” to be able to continue playing when the free credits run out. “I buy lives all the time,” she confessed about her favorite purchase, which ranges between $8 and $10 to be able to play unlimitedly for a period of time. Candy Crush is interspersed with another video game, called Brainstorm, which is a question and answer game. When her daughter Mecha is there, she puts aside mobile applications and opts to play basket.
Television also continues to occupy an important place in his life. When night begins to fall, Giménez turns on the screen and the first thing he does is watch the news, then he continues watching other Argentine prime time programs. Although she is one of the stars of Telefe, one of her favorite programs is from the rival screen, since “The 8 steps of the three million”, hosted by Guido Kaczka on the screen of El Trece is one of her favorite programs. She shares her fanaticism for this program with her friend Mirtha Legrand and, in fact, when they talk on the phone they usually talk about what happens in the question and answer program. She “she Plays alongside the participants, trying to guess. “She hates when they are questions about music,” they explain to NOTICIAS.
The rest of the time, the diva found gardening a hobby that attracts her. She is with the dogs, waters the grass, takes care of the plants and even feeds the geese. “She likes to get muddy,” they explain. She also found in embroidery another entertainment to kill her time. But just as she added habits, she also suppressed others. Alcohol is no longer part of her life, a decision she made after confessing that she drank “a lot of wine.” “Now she doesn’t take a single drop, it made her head hurt and she decided it was better not to take more,” she says in her entourage. She also began to take care of herself when she ate, not to the point of dieting or trying to reduce her weight, but with the goal of taking care of herself.
Celebration. This Susana who “no longer hides her age” has been preparing the celebrations for the beginning of her eighth decade for approximately six months. Mercedes Sarrabayrouse, her daughter, along with Inés Hernández, her friend and historical assistant, and some other people were part of a kind of committee that advised on the guest list for the event. The thing is that Giménez intends it to be a reserved agape and that is why they were very strict in terms of putting together the list of those summoned. The list in question consists of 60 guests, among which several international guests stand out. Cristian Castro, who is with his Argentine girlfriend in Carlos Paz and even went to see Susana at the theater, was one of the first confirmed. However, his mother Verónica Castro will be absent. Ricardo Montaner and his family, Puma Rodríguez and Sebastián Yatra will be other international performers who will be present. There was speculation about the presence of other Latin artists such as Ricky Martin and Luis Miguel, however, this will not happen. “He has a very good relationship, but he is not their friend,” they point out.
Ramón “Palito” Ortega is another of the guest singers who will attend with his wife Evangelina Salazar. The man from Tucumán will also be in charge of giving a show, although there will also be many surprises prepared for the birthday girl that will liven up the meeting.
Also among the select group of guests is Gustavo Yankelevich, current director of Susana in the play, who will attend along with his wife Rosella Della Giovampaola. As for her closest family, her daughter Mecha, Lucía and Manuel, grandchildren of the host, and her siblings Carolina and Patricio Giménez will attend.
The only ex-couple who will attend is Ricardo Darín, with whom the diva maintains a very close relationship. The actor, who is spending his days in the Uruguayan city, will go with his wife Florencia Bas. Others summoned who have already confirmed his presence are Darío Turovelzky, Federico Levrino, Dolores Mayol, Teté Coustarot, Marley and Marcela Amado. According to NEWS, another of the select guests will be former president Mauricio Macri along with his wife Juliana Awada.
One of the big absentees will be Mirtha Legrand. The two stars share a great friendship, but the lunch diva excused herself because that same day she has the gala at the Maternal and Child Hospital of Mar del Plata, at the Costa Galana (See box). Marcela Tinayre will go in her place along with her children, Nacho and Juana Viale.
The VIP event will not only have a reinforced security operation but Giménez wants it to be as private as possible. In fact, he had not considered the possibility of having a photographer for the event, although in the end it will be Juanita Mauri, Inés Hernández’s daughter, who will be in charge of that matter.
“She already has the outfit chosen, but she is not going to change her wardrobe. She’s just going to enjoy it,” they explain about how the night will go. Susana Giménez no longer hides her age and she will celebrate it to the fullest.
