Heidenheim turns game
FC Bayern received a massive slap in the Bundesliga and has to accept a serious setback in the fight for the championship. The champions had a desolate performance in the 1:5 (1:3) at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday and left the field as a loser in the league for the first time since May. Omar Marmoush (12th), Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe (31st/50th), Hugo Larsson (36th) and Ansgar Knauff (60th) scored against the record champions, who made mistake after mistake in front of 58,000 spectators.
The game on matchday 14 was reminiscent of Eintracht’s 5-1 win in November 2019, which cost then Bayern coach Niko Kovac his job. The Munich team conceded five goals in the Bundesliga for the eighth time in the club’s history. There were more than five in seven games. The Munich team, led by top striker Harry Kane, who was harmless this time, are three points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who play at VfB Stuttgart on Sunday (3:30 p.m./DAZN), with the same number of games. Joshua Kimmich’s goal (43rd) was far too little for the Munich team on a completely messed up afternoon.
On Bjelica’s Bundesliga debut: Union Berlin wins against Gladbach
Union Berlin ended its dramatic winless streak on coach Nenad Bjelica’s Bundesliga debut. After 16 games without any success, the Iron team beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1 (1-0) on Saturday and sent a strong message in the relegation battle with a courageous performance.
Kevin Volland (23rd) with a hand penalty, Benedict Hollerbach (50th) and Mikkel Kaufmann (75th) with their first Union goals scored the goals for the dominant hosts in the sold-out stadium at the Alte Försterei with 22,012 spectators. Alassane Pléa (77th) could only shorten the score for Borussia.
Thanks to Stark & Ducksch: Werder Bremen wins against FC Augsburg
Werder Bremen has achieved the longed-for break out of the relegation battle. With the deserved 2-0 (1-0), the Hanseatic League ended FC Augsburg’s winning streak of six games without defeat on Saturday and caused a collective sigh of relief among their fans.

The sporting crisis at VfL Wolfsburg is coming to a head. Despite the best chances, the ambitious Volkswagen club lost 0-1 (0-0) against a harmless SC Freiburg on Saturday. Michael Gregoritsch took advantage of one of only two Freiburg chances in the game in the 74th minute. In terms of the course of the game, the exploitation of opportunities and the resultless dominance, from Wolfsburg’s point of view this next setback was reminiscent of the cup exit at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Tuesday evening.
