The VfL Wolfsburg footballers scored a commanding mandatory win against SC Freiburg, but had to do without Alexandra Popp for the most part.
A week after the defeat in the Bundesliga top game at FC Bayern Munich, coach Tommy Stroot’s team defeated SC Freiburg 4-0 (2-0).
DFB captain Popp had to leave the field after just under half an hour with a thigh injury.
The table is still led by FC Bayern, who are one point ahead of Wolfsburg after a 2-0 (1-0) home win against bottom team MSV Duisburg.
Popp’s national team colleague Lena Oberdorf was missing due to back problems. National goalkeeper Merle Frohms returned after a long absence due to a concussion.
The goals for the runner-up in front of 3,017 spectators were scored by Ewa Pajor (36th and 50th minutes) with her third and fourth goals of the season, Vivien Endemann (39th) and Lena Lattwein (60th).
Damnjanovic and Stanway score for FC Bayern
In Munich, Jovana Damnjanovic gave the champions, who competed without national players Giulia Gwinn and Lea Schüller, an early lead (8th).
The fans initially hoped in vain for more goals, especially since striker Damnjanovic, who apparently injured her calf, had to leave the pitch early (36th).
Only the English international Georgia Stanway made things a little clearer (penalty kick/72nd), Linda Dallmann had previously been fouled in the penalty area.
