The Eisbären Berlin celebrated another victory in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) after two defeats. On Sunday afternoon, the capital city team won confidently against the Nuremberg Ice Tigers 5-0 (1-0, 3-0, 1-0).
Leonhard Pföderl contributed two goals to the clear home win, while Blaine Byron, Tobias Eder and Zach Boychuk also scored for the Berliners. Goalie Jake Hildebrand didn’t concede a goal for the first time in the Eisbären jersey.
In front of 14,030 spectators in the Arena at Ostbahnhof, the home team controlled the game from the start, but initially were often too awkward in attack.

Because Pföderl capitalized on one of the few clear opportunities, the Berliners went into the first third break with a narrow lead.
After the restart, the capital city team improved significantly and used their superiority to extend their lead. Pföderl scored for the second time before Byron and Eder were also successful in the power play.
In the final period, the clear home win was no longer in danger; Boychuk even scored Berlin’s fifth goal shortly before the end of the game.
Because the Nuremberg attacker Charlie Gerard was unable to convert a penalty, Hildebrand celebrated his first shutout in the capital’s goal.
