Former Dutch international Jerry de Jong has died at the age of 61, the KNVB reports. The father of former midfielder Nigel de Jong, now director of top football at the KNVB, played a total of three international matches in 1990 and 1991.

De Jong, born in Paramaribo, played for Telstar, SC Heerenveen, PSV and FC Groningen during his career. The former defender played more than 360 matches in professional football.

Son Nigel (41) was present on Sunday at the first World Cup match of the Dutch team against Japan (2-2). He has been director of top football at the KNVB since 2023.
