Special facade stone

Walk around the Eerste Stationsstraat, the Dorpsstraat or the Schinkelweg and you will find it (of course we won’t say exactly where): a striking facade stone. This is a decorated stone on the facade of a building. Nowadays it is a beautiful decoration, but in the past such a stone had an important function.

In general, facing bricks are small stones with a relief, often with bright colors and a top or bottom script. You will not only find them in our city, but throughout the Netherlands. And mainly on old buildings. Occasionally a facade stone has been placed on a newer building, for example because the original building has been demolished.
