Sara Parikka gives warm thanks to her fellow actor Tero Tiittanen Sara’s friend book on the podcast. Parikka and Tiittanen worked together in the Salatut elämat series for several years and they also played a TV couple.

– I seriously want to thank what our working friendship has been like. I was in my twenties, how safe have I been. I got to tease you and be exactly who I am. Not many people know me that way.

– We have had trust and security, and a bit of a cousin feeling, Parikka continues.

Tiittanen strongly identifies with his cousin feeling, which in part caused challenges during filming. Tiittanen says that in romantic scenes the script often read “kissing”.

– I thought, hell no, kissing is written here again. It has to be done. We didn’t find each other repulsive. But it was about role characters and we had developed a friendly relationship, and we were just like cousins.

– There was such a feeling of “good luck, we got through”, Parikka laughs.

Parikka and Tiittanen are remembered as Peppi Puolakka and Sergei Kuula from the favorite series. However, the chemistry between the characters always seemed natural to the actors, and the end result was also transmitted to the TV screens. Sometimes even too well.

Parikka reveals that one of the producers asked if the colleagues had romance in the air in real life.

– I was completely shocked. So we don’t really, Parikka updates with a laugh.

Tiittanen continues that as actors they could kiss “just air” convincingly.

– We only really fucked when we were filming. Otherwise it was just practice. Now that he hasn’t done that dance for a long time, it feels really absurd, Parikka recalls the kissing scenes.

– People are interested in the fact that isn’t it strange if you are in a relationship and kiss someone else, Tiittanen says with understanding.

The two state that the actor’s work is ultimately quite technical, and there is always a large film crew around. Tiittanen developed his own tactics for kissing scenes.

– Think of it like you’re just kissing a pencil. You just put a kissing shell on it, that “here now the character is kissing lovingly”. That’s acting. But what’s deep inside is just the pencil to get this done now.

– The fact that there would actually be a romantic moment is quite far-fetched, Sara sums up.
