HSV brings Van der Brempt on loan from Salzburg

Belgium Under-21 international

Hamburger SV have announced their fifth new signing in defender Ignace Van der Brempt. The right foot comes on loan for one season from Red Bull Salzburg, where his contract runs until 2026.

The 21-year-old Belgian, who trained at Club Brugge and moved to Austria in January 2022 for a fee of five million euros, is the fourth regular right-back in the Rothosen squad for the upcoming season. In Salzburg, Van der Brempt scored one goal in 24 competitive games. The U21 international is one of the most valuable Belgian defenders in his age group.

“With his player profile, Ignace fits perfectly into our plans: he has played in top teams in recent years, so he is used to the constant pressure to succeed and perform. He also has the physical, technical and tactical requirements for the 2nd Bundesliga and, despite his young age, has already gained international experience at the highest level. Since he very quickly and consciously decided to switch to HSV during the talks, we see this transfer as a win-win situation for all sides,” said Hamburg’s director of professional football Claus Costa about the change.
