Hamburger SV has started preparing for its sixth season in the 2nd Bundesliga. The goal is the same as in every year since 2018, said sports director Jonas Boldt at the start of training: promotion.
“It doesn’t matter what I say, because I believe that everyone who deals with HSV, and everyone who also knows how we tick, knows very clearly that this reflects our ambition,” said the 41- year olds.
The players and coach Tim Walter only had a short vacation. Three and a half weeks after the failed Bundesliga relegation against VfB Stuttgart, the professionals stood in front of around 300 spectators on the training ground next to the Volksparkstadion.
The previous additions Immanuel Pherai from league competitor Eintracht Braunschweig and Uwe Seeler’s grandson Levin Öztunali from Bundesliga club 1. FC Union Berlin were also there. The ex-Bielefeld Guilherme Ramos only trained individually two months after his shoulder surgery.
After his contract extension with HSV, the courted goalscorer Robert Glatzel was also present at the first training session. The Dutch top performer Ludovit Reis was absent because of the U21 European Championship. After their international matches, Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer (Ghana) and Anssi Suhonen (Finland) were also allowed to take a break.
