Wilfred Genee does not think that John de Mol is angry with him after their last negotiations about Today Inside. “I think he had no problem with that at all,” said the TV star.
Just before the summer holidays, Wilfred Genee, Johan Derksen and René van der Gijp signed up with Talpa for two years. As a result, they earn about 1.2 to 1.4 million a year with Today Inside; a considerable sum of money and according to Johan John de Mol could drink Wilfred’s blood because of his sharp negotiations.
‘John exaggerates’
How is that exactly? Wilfred tells the Weekend: “John had already forgotten that the day after. He can also negotiate very sharply himself, can’t he? I think he had no problem with that at all. But we are both pretty stubborn.”
Does an argument-like atmosphere arise during the negotiations? “No, that’s all right. Johan likes to exaggerate it a bit. I have to say that it all went pretty smoothly in the end. We had to feel it out in the beginning and then we came out fairly quickly.”
Tricky point
One tricky point was the extra long broadcasts on Friday evening. “Only René and I wondered whether we should do the Friday evening broadcast extra. Or that would not be at the expense of the program. But in the end we were at a million viewers and it worked anyway.”
After that summer, that extra long Friday broadcast will not return, but that is not due to the viewing figures. Wilfred is extremely satisfied with the performance of Today Inside. “I have to say: I did not expect this success. I had the feeling that it had potential, but not to this extent.”
