New Wolfsburg coach introduced

The new Wolfsburg coach Tobias Strobl has rejected comparisons with national coach Julian Nagelsmann or successful coach Jürgen Klopp. “The first impulse is: cool. But the second impulse, reality, is no. I’m miles away from that,” said Strobl during his introduction.

“I want to be my best version,” added the previous coach of third division club SC Verl, who is succeeding Dieter Hecking at the VW club after relegation from the Bundesliga. Hecking is now managing director of sports at the Wolves and therefore Strobl’s superior. Strobl almost led the small Verl into the second division with attractive football. The Ingolstadt native is considered a great coaching talent.

Strobl expects a difficult task at VfL Wolfsburg

In Wolfsburg, Strobl faces the difficult task of rebuilding VfL after relegation. To achieve this, the squad needs to be massively restructured. “We have clarity about what we want. And we have clarity about what we need. And now the players have to match their personalities and fit with VfL,” said Strobl about the coming weeks on the transfer market.

The new coach did not want to comment on specific names. Strobl didn’t want to say anything about Robert Glatzel, who is supposed to come from Hamburger SV, or the veterans Maximilian Arnold and Christian Eriksen. So far, Darmstadt attacker Fraser Hornby and returnee Elvis Rexhbecaj from FC Augsburg have been confirmed as new additions.
