Great confusion at the Spanish first division club FC Cádiz. Club president Manuel Vizcaíno appeared to have fired coach Sergio González and his entire coaching staff on Saturday, only to announce minutes later that the coach’s contract had been renewed.
“In view of the speculation of the past few days, I have to confirm that Sergio Ganzález and his team will not be at Cádiz FC next season,” Vizcaíno said in a first video on Twitter. A shock for the fans of the comparatively small southern Spanish club, which thanks to the popular coach and a fighting team was able to stay in the top division and ended the 2022/23 season in a respectable 14th place. The 46-year-old’s point average is 1.19 in 59 games.
Then, minutes later, a second video in which someone rings the doorbell, which coach González then opens and beamingly announces: “Calm down, the best is yet to come.” Shortly afterwards, without further explanation, the salvation for the fans: “He (the coach) will sign for two (seasons). Welcome home, mister. We will continue to grow,” Vizcaíno clarified with a grin in a third video on Twitter.

The whole thing was a joke by the president, a marketing gimmick, so to speak, wrote the newspaper “Voz de Cádiz”. Later, Cádiz officially announced that González’s contract had been extended until 2025.
