Jan-Lennard Struff can continue to dream of his first title on the ATP tour. The 33-year-old from Warstein advanced to the final of the lawn tournament in Stuttgart after beating Hubert Hurkacz from Poland 3:6, 6:3, 6:3. There Struff meets the American Frances Tiafoe, who is in third place.
Struff is only playing his third final at an ATP tournament. He was previously defeated in Munich two years ago, and Struff lost to Carlos Alcaraz at the Masters in Madrid last month. In the world rankings, the Davis Cup player is listed at least 21st on Monday – career best.
Against Hurkacz, who was in fourth place, Struff turned up the heat after the lost first set. He also defied Poland’s 21 aces. Tiafoe had advanced to the final against Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics. The balance between Struff and Tiafoe is balanced (1: 1). The last duel dates from 2020, which Struff won at the French Open.
