Retail sales down – online trade is growing

Eurozone retail sales fell in February. In a monthly comparison, they fell by 0.8 percent, as the European statistical office Eurostat announced on Tuesday in Luxembourg. Economists had expected this on average.

However, the increase in January, at a revised 0.8 percent, was stronger than initially determined. Previously, only an increase of 0.3 percent had been reported.

Sales fell in almost all retail sectors in February. An exception was the mail order and internet trade, where sales increased again in February.

Year-on-year, total retail sales fell 3.0 percent in February. A decline of 3.5 percent had been expected here. (dpa)
