The Berlin SPD leader Franziska Giffey sees good reasons for the party base to agree to the points negotiated with the CDU.
“The coalition agreement is a very good argument,” said Giffey on Tuesday on RBB Inforadio. “We have achieved a lot for the SPD, we can move a lot.”
As an alternative, Giffey does not see the possible continuation of the existing coalition of SPD, Greens and Left. “If we don’t go this way here, then it will be a black-green alliance,” she said. “Then the SPD will look on in the opposition.”
“We want to do something good for the city,” said Giffey, “you have to be able to shape that, you have to be responsible for the government.”
After the presentation of the coalition agreement on Monday, the SPD will start a member vote on it this Tuesday. First, the postal voting documents are compiled and prepared for dispatch, as a spokesman said. Mailing to 18,566 party members will begin on Wednesday. The completed ballot papers must be returned to the SPD by April 21.
